Taking money

I am not against the European Union a priori or against reaching agreement with the nations of the world. I am against dishonest, unequal prinicples and shameful compromises, even betrayals perpetrated by those who negotiated and expressed their consent. I am against the pseudo-government of Marek Belka, which initiated acceptance of the constitution - saying Bogdan Pęk, deputy to the European Parliament. więcej...

TV`s democracy

The EU is at the moment very technocratic, there is no ethos of the founding fathers which characterized great individuals like de Gasperi, Schumann and Adenauer. It is the EU of technocrats and politicians who think in the categories of elections and therefore four years ahead only. In Germany and other countries they have enormous problems with convincing their own public opinion about tightening the belts and, at the same time, enlarging EU expenses on behalf of the poorer participants of the EU. więcej...

The factor of time

In examining what is now developing we see that the American neoimperial vision is still a kind of territorial vision. It binds together various territorial units (and ones having quite different political systems), under the control of a center that defines the whole’s boundary conditions and executes the functioning of rules. This model can also embrace a “pseudo-modern regime” of the kind that will likely arise in Iraq – and generally can combine various traditional regimes and differing types of democracy - says Professor Jadwiga Staniszkis, Warsaw University. więcej...

Poles and land

Poles are decidedly against the sale of land to foreigners in surveys. The reasons behind this are not only economic, but also originate in historic knowledge passed from generation to generation and love for the land of Polish literary and poetic classics. The patriotic hymn written by Maria Konopnicka (1842-1910), which has become the second most frequently sung national hymn today begins with the words „We shall not abandon the land.” The great poet Cyprian Kamil Norwid (1821-1883) taught Poles that „The fatherland is land and graves.” więcej...

History and the present time

During the visit in Poland (August 7-8) President of Lithuania Vladas Adamkus promised to take care of two conflicting issues: the spelling of Polish surnames – Lithuanian citizens in Lithuanian documents, which as for now were spelled in a Lithuanian form and orthography; and returning land to Polish farmers. According to President Adamkus, this last issue is ‘a strictly a legal issue, which should be considered on both sides, Polish and Lithuanian’. The fact remains that the farmers with Lithuanian citizenship were returned the land nationalized during the Soviet era, however Polish farmers – Lithuanian citizens have been waiting for 14 years for the return of their property, which is delayed due to ‘lack of documents’. więcej...

A new player

For 12 years we struggle to achieve membership, making it our first strategic priority and suddenly it turned out that just when we had reached our goal, it released a wave of fear, worry and concern that someone wants to cheat us. This is inconceivable. I can’t understand how parties who proclaim that the EU is a threat to sovereignty receive applause and are listened to. I can’t understand why Polish farmers, who have gained the most, are collectively against membership. It`s not logical - says Dariusz Rosati, deputy to the European Parliament. więcej...

A beautiful mind

In defining my strategy against moisture, I took into consideration the faults and virtues of technology to date. However, I avoided their disadvantages. I treated the problem unconventionally. Previous technologies interfere with water in the walls. My concept assumes that the water stored in these walls should be regained for technological reasons, which significantly reduces costs. That is the heart of the matter. I came to the conclusion that the methods used until now were not only inefective but dangerous to walls and the health of those in the building. I began to use already existing water reserves in walls in the drying process and it worked. I relied on the theoretical work of Prof. Ilja Prigozin, a Russian Noble Prize winner - tells Wojciech Nawrot, Polish inventor. więcej...
